Problems and Prospects of Higher Education in the Servant Colony of Industrial Township with special reference to Oil Township Digboi

Abstract

Inspite of a resourceful outlook, normally we can find one another world lying in dark in the industrial townships of our country; that is the servant colonies. The said colonies are always neglected. hence it is underdeveloped. Though huge numbers of citizens are living in the heart of a resourceful town, yet the socio-economic condition of this area is not above than the rural area. The scenario of participation in higher education is also very poor in these areas. Therefore, as a sample for study, the oil-based township of upper Assam Digboi is selected here. The township is based on the pioneer petroleum sector industry of India Oil India Limited. Out of 300 no's of executive quarters of this company 100 no's of quarters has the facility to have an official servant quarter. But interestingly the participation in higher education from this area is very low. In this study attempt is made to focus on the problems and prospects of higher education in this area. To complete the study a survey was made among 200 boys and girls of 6-20 age groups of this area and these samples were selected on random basis.
